Nucleus Nano II Sneak Preview

Nucleus Nano

Our story began in 2009. The first Nucleus follow focus system was announced in 2013, and is now trusted by over 300,000 users worldwide. Tilta has innovated at miniaturizing and democratizing wireless lens control systems for filmmakers, with the Nucleus-M and Nucleus-Nano being some of the most feature-packed and affordable FIZ systems available upon release.

The next revolution in wireless lens control systems is fast approaching. The all-new Nucleus Nano is coming soon. The new system will be compatible with existing Nucleus-M, Nano, and Mirage Motorized VND systems.

  1. The one thing the system needs is a zoom controller. We need a way to SMOOTHLY zoom.

  2. It would be great if there was and updated for Nucleus M and Nano, to keep calibration even after powering off and on. Hopefully the new one has that option

  3. Thank you Tilta. The most exciting thing would be an internal battery for the motor and for the controller. Charging a motor from an external battery is what annoyed me the most in the first iteration.

  4. It appears that the little LED is being replaced which is great. I find that calibrating the wheel is very confusing. I would also like LESS rotation to get from A to B. My hand can only turn a half rotation as there is no finger hole so any racking has a pause half way through. An intuitive way to get from A to B with only a half rotation or an 1/8 rotation depending on the shot would help greatly. I know DPs love being able to fine tune focus but when we have to get from macro to infinity, it’s a long, slow ride.

Also, for me my wheel is always disconnecting and reconnecting can be a challenge. Plus it’s hard to remember and / or verify that it’s powered off. I usually have a dead battery.

One last thing: fluid. It is a necessity for smooth motion in a tripod head. Why not have smooth motion in a focus wheel?

Bonus: Hard stop A-B. It may be from a lack of use, but I find setting and moving A-B to be trickier than it needs to be.

I like my nano but frankly the dated LCD, the need to memorize unintuitive menus and the mentioned usability issues means that it usually lives in my gear bag. I am hoping that the new nano works and feels more like an extension of my camera than the current one does.

  5. Having the option to run the motor off the controllers power.

  6. make it Ronin compatible like the Remote handle and I am sold!

  7. Looking forward to using and reviewing this new nano

  8. I do see it says nd on the little screen, if that’s for the mirage box nd motor, that would be very very cool! , less knobs needed on the rig which is a huge help .
