Question 2

What are the differences and advantages of wireless follow focus compared to manual follow focus?

Accepted Answer

The film industry currently offers two primary focus control solutions: traditional manual follow focus and advanced wireless follow focus systems.

Manual follow focus operates through a mechanical interface where a gear assembly mounted on support rods, meshes with the lens focus ring— a simple rotation of the handwheel translates into precise focus adjustments.

Wireless follow focus incorporates a dual-component design: a focus motor and a wireless control hand unit. This configuration allows filmmakers to achieve precise focus control by remotely operating the motor mounted on the lens support system.
